We Abide In Christ: Growing with God - Part 1

Feb 22, 2026    Pastor Nathan

We often approach our spiritual lives like a checklist, measuring our maturity by how many tasks we complete—more prayer time, more Bible reading, more service. But this message challenges us to abandon that exhausting, works-based mentality and embrace what Christ truly desires: abiding. Drawing from John 15:1-5, we're reminded that Jesus is the vine and we are the branches, and our growth doesn't come from straining to produce fruit on our own, but from remaining deeply connected to Him. The Greek word 'menio' means to make one's home, calling us to permanent residency with Christ rather than weekend visitation. When we try to force spiritual growth through human effort, we experience burnout and spiritual exhaustion. But when we root ourselves completely in Christ—yielding 100% of our lives, not just half—His joy becomes our joy, and His strength sustains us through every trial. This isn't about doing more; it's about being more connected. The transformation happens when we slow down enough to let our roots go deep, when we submit to the pruning process that prepares us for greater things, and when we mirror Christ so closely that we're transformed from glory to glory. True spiritual maturity is measured not by our accomplishments but by how fully we remain in Him.
